Welcome To Your Home
Away From Home
Congratulations on becoming a member of Maryland Golf and Country Clubs!
This is more than just a place to play — it’s where you build relationships that last a lifetime, and where your days take on a natural rhythm and sense of connection.
From championship rounds and racquet rallies to summer poolside afternoons and memorable evenings in the Clubhouse, life here is designed to be lived fully.
Every space, every experience, invites you to engage physically, socially, and personally in ways that feel both energizing and effortless.
Our New Member Onboarding Program is here to guide you, personally and thoughtfully, as you settle in. It’s your introduction to the signature experiences, traditions, and people who define this Club — and who will soon feel like familiar faces. Take your time. Explore often. This is more than membership. It’s your second home.
And it’s just the beginning.

Club Commendations
Our property was originally owned by Baseball Hall of Famer, Lieutenant Colonel Leland "Larry" Stanford MacPhail, Sr., former head of the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, and the New York Yankees.
In 1962, Paul Haviland was hired as our Golf Pro and served for 36 years at the Club. A PGA member, Haviland was a highly respected golf professional in the Mid-Atlantic region and a 2007 inductee into the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Hall of Fame.
We are completing the latter part of a $9 million renovation that began in 2020 and has included updates to our pool, a refresh of the golf course, enhancements to the Clubhouse, and new pickleball courts.
Our Wine Club is the perfect way for oenophiles to deepen their appreciation of wine while enjoying thoughtfully curated events.
Six Har-Tru tennis courts are “matched” by six pickleball courts.
The Club’s unique U-shaped swimming pool was recently renovated and includes a diving area and slide section.
The Cabana Club is the center of summertime socializing and family fun.
A choice of indoor and outdoor dining venues likewise offers culinary choices throughout the year. Our beautiful Pavilion is very popular for outdoor dining.
'Spooktacular' is one of our signature events, featuring fun-filled hayrides around the golf course, tons of activities, and a Haunted House in the Clubhouse.

Our History
The story of Maryland Golf and Country Clubs begins with a vision — and a larger-than-life one at that. The land that now defines the Club was once Glenangus Farm, the Bel Air estate of Leland "Larry" MacPhail, Sr., a Baseball Hall of Famer and innovator who reshaped America’s pastime. Known for introducing night baseball and modernizing the business of sports, MacPhail brought that same ambition to his retirement dream: crafting a private, championship-caliber golf course across rolling hills, bluegrass turf, and winding streams. What emerged was a course rooted in the land itself—natural, demanding, and unmistakably special.

When the course was completed, MacPhail entrusted it to a group of Harford County leaders, retaining only his own membership. From that moment, the Club became a member-owned institution, shaped by those who loved it most. Early years were defined by steady growth and big ideas: a purpose-built clubhouse, swimming pools, and a thriving golf culture that quickly earned regional respect. Tennis courts followed, along with a reputation for exceptional course conditions — thanks to dedicated stewards who treated the grounds not just as turf, but as a point of pride.
Over the decades, Maryland Golf and Country Clubs has evolved while staying true to its roots. Major clubhouse expansions, a reimagined aquatics center, and thoughtful renovations — most recently in 2023 and 2026 — have ensured the Club feels both timeless and current.
Today, it stands as a place where sport, celebration, and community intersect: a welcoming setting for family traditions, competitive play, and milestone moments. Proud of its heritage and confident in its future, the Club continues to offer something rare — a sense of belonging grounded in history, and designed to last.
